Amalfi is a crowded mess from May-October. Florence too, but more room to spread out. Traveling in the Amalfi area can be tough because of crowds, weather, etc.
On Day 6, I took a train down to Sorrento and then a ferry around the tip of the peninsula to Amalfi. It was unbelievably crowded, so I noped out and found a bus for Ravello where it was far less crowded. I had lunch and then hiked all the way back to Amalfi. This was one of my favorite experiences in the whole trip.

Lodging on the coast is very expensive indeed. Theres a few cheap hostels but they’re either super out of the way or really bad.
My biggest worry is shorting too much time in Naples/Amalfi. But I’m also worried I’d be cutting too much from anywhere else if I do.
