Parent context: Usually, I don't care for books that switch between people and time: All the Light We Cannot See was gorgeous hisorical fiction with possibly big magic. Reply: I like when people have read 1984 by George Orwell AND Brave New World. 2 different spectrums of dystopia.

All the Light We Cannot See and Cloud Cuckoo Land are excellent.

Some that I have read and enjoyed to give you a better idea are The Ministry of Time, All the Light We Cannot See, Normal People, The Lincoln Highway (hated, but adding it so it doesn’t get suggested), and Where the Crawdads Sing.

Some other books that I think do a good job at encapsulating the human condition that I enjoyed are The Road, All the Light We Cannot See, and Night.

Parent context: Counterpoint: it's a crowd pleaser. I read it and enjoyed it, but it doesn't even rank on my list of favorites - but I can say exactly the same thing about All the Light we Cannot See. It's a good story, well told - if that's all you look for in a book, you will love it. Reply: Never in a million years would I describe LD as a crowd pleaser
