AKG K361
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The AKG K361 is widely recommended as a top-tier budget closed-back headphone for those seeking a neutral, Harman-style tuning. It is praised for its midrange accuracy and ease of use without an external amplifier, though it is frequently criticized for mediocre build quality and a fit that can be finicky depending on head shape.
Pros
- Neutral and honest sound signature with accurate midrange
- Easy to drive directly from a PC or mobile device without an amp
- Controlled bass and low listening fatigue
- Excellent value for the price, often cited as a best-in-class option under $100
Cons
- Build quality is frequently described as fragile or less sturdy than competitors
- Fitment issues can cause the acoustic seal to break when moving your head
- Upper mids and treble can occasionally be perceived as slightly grainy
Caveats
- Sound consistency is highly dependent on achieving a perfect seal around the ears
- While sound quality is often preferred over the DT 770, the build is generally considered inferior
Best for
- Analytical listening on a budget
- Users seeking a versatile all-rounder with a neutral profile
- Listeners who do not want to invest in a dedicated headphone amplifier
Avoid if
- You require rugged durability for heavy travel or professional abuse
- You have a head shape that makes achieving a consistent seal difficult
- You prefer a very 'fun' or heavily bass-boosted sound signature

AKG K361
If you want neutral I think the AKG K361 might be the best available in that price range.
K361. I have them. They are very good
If you go down the AKG route I would recommend the K361 > 371. That would be closer to the 490 Pro.
Feel free to check out the closed Shure SRH440A, Audio-Technica ATH-M40X, Sony MDR-7506 and AKG K361, for example.

both have great build quality(unlike K361 and K371 also from AKG)
You said you wanted close-back. K361 is the most solid option among them. The balanced tuning is well accepted for most people taste. No need extra amp cost.
Akg has made some years ago k361 and k371, some come with bt option. Decent, but 2 years feel like 10 in headphone years.
Also consider AKG K361 which sounds better than the DT 770 but has the worst build quality of all 3 options I suggested.
