I grew up in Abu Dhabi, and while it’s opened up a lot now, when I first moved in 2011, all the restaurants and food courts would close for the month, eating or drinking in public was forbidden, schools and offices would (and still do) operate on shorter days and Muslim kids would be excused from P.E and would officially not be allowed in the cafeteria to sit with non Muslims while they ate (most would come in anyway and didn’t care).

Nah mate Abu Dhabi is actually one of the better layover spots - proper modern airport and Etihad runs pretty tight schedules 🔥 I've done that exact route before and it was smooth as butter, just make sure you've got at least 2-3 hours between flights and you'll be golden 👍
