AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

1000xRESIST is a polarizing narrative-driven sci-fi title that is frequently praised for its complex, cerebral storytelling while being criticized for its tedious gameplay mechanics. While many players consider it a narrative masterpiece with deep emotional resonance and unique symbolism, others find the experience hampered by a confusing hub world, frustrating controls, and significant pacing issues in the latter half of the story.

Pros

  • Exceptional, thought-provoking narrative that balances politics, emotion, and intrigue
  • Deeply moving and memorable story that stays with players long after completion
  • Unique and striking visual design and editing
  • Ambitious world-building that rewards players who apply 'brain power' to process its themes

Cons

  • Tedious 'walking simulator' gameplay and repetitive jumping puzzles
  • Frustrating controls, including bugs that cause loss of character control during sprints
  • Confusing and unintuitive central hub (The Orchard) that is difficult to navigate
  • Significant pacing issues, particularly a 'nosedive' in momentum during the climax

Caveats

  • The experience is often described as more of an interactive story or performance art piece than a traditional game
  • The second half of the game is perceived by some as less polished than the first
  • Narrative complexity may be overwhelming or confusing for some players

Best for

  • Players who prioritize high-concept sci-fi storytelling over gameplay
  • Fans of experimental or 'pretentious' narrative media
  • Patient gamers who enjoy slow-burn, introspective experiences

Avoid if

  • You dislike walking simulators or games with minimal mechanical depth
  • You are easily frustrated by unintuitive map layouts and navigation
  • You prefer fast-paced action or have low tolerance for slow-burn pacing

What redditors said (10 of 25)

My biggest complaint is that there's too much stuffed into a 10 hour story - some sections feel very confusing, and rapid-cut montages are cool but not always appropriate. Gameplay can also get somewhat tedious, to the point I sometimes wondered if this would have been better off as a performance art or theatre piece

Never has a video game story legit required brain power for me to process, especially given how many narrative and thematic balls it is juggling and mostly keeping afloat. It's the kind of story that I still don't think I have understood completely, but every strand I did understand is tied so meticulously that I am charitable towards what I didn't

This game was amazing, it blow my mind. It was interesting, well written, witty, surprising, shocking... I was emphasizing heavily with Iris despite her being a total and absolute psychopath... The narrative, the editing, the visuals... It was an absolute stunning game that still makes me thing from time to time.

Rating: 10/10 (Masterpiece) This game takes you on a weird and surreal journey that’s packed with symbolism, yet it balances its cerebral sci-fi roots with a deeply moving and grounded human tale that has stayed with me long after putting the controller down.

Finished 1000xresist, mind blowingly good and I'm so sad my time with the sisters is over. Best game I've played this year.

1000xresist is something I booted up on a whim as it was on Gamespass and has taken up a permanent fixture in my brain. It's rare that a game makes me think about my own relationship with my children but Iris and her sisters have pretty much bowled me over

It’s really intriguing, but “narrative driven walking simulator” is so far from my wheelhouse that I couldn’t play it for more than a few minutes.

I got half way, I think, and just couldn't put myself through more of it. If there was an interesting and thoughtful story in there, I won't really know because the experience was so tedious I just couldn't be bothered to find out.

Yep. I also picked it up in humble because of the praise. I forced myself to finish it, wasn't worth it.

I gave up after like 3 hours. I already cant stand anime graphics in video games, and this is a walking simulator on top of that. But breathless praise similar to OPs drive me to pick it up on humble bundle and give it a try and i just couldnt. It had no hook and everything else was a complete turn off.
