Vivo is frequently recognized as a "camera king" among smartphone enthusiasts, often cited for hardware that rivals or exceeds mainstream flagships in photography, night shots, and battery capacity. While its hardware quality is highly praised, the brand faces consistent criticism regarding its software experience, which users describe as bloated and prone to notification delays or aggressive background app management.

Pros

  • Top-tier camera hardware and processing, particularly for night photography and automatic shots.
  • Industry-leading battery capacities (up to 7500 mAh) and longevity.
  • High-end build quality using premium materials like Gorilla Glass and top-of-the-line Snapdragon processors.
  • Aggressive yearly hardware iterations that provide significant upgrades over previous models.

Cons

  • Software experience is often described as bloated with pre-installed apps and system ads.
  • Aggressive power management can lead to delayed notifications and background apps closing unexpectedly.
  • Long-term durability concerns, specifically reports of "green lines" appearing on screens after several years.
  • Software and interface can feel unfamiliar or "awkward" compared to mainstream brands like Apple or Samsung.

You go for an Xperia, Pixel, Oneplus or a Vivo if you’re looking for niche features and you don’t mind some compromises.

Parent context: Vivo or Oppo. Reply: they don't last, their software is pretty bad when it comes to optimizations so even 2 generation old phones will start lagging. i've used them, not worth the price they're charging

Google Pixel is primarily recognized for its industry-leading still photography and a clean, streamlined user interface often described as the most 'iOS-like' experience on Android. While users praise its AI features and software longevity, the brand faces consistent criticism for hardware limitations, specifically regarding thermal management, charging speeds, and gaming performance.

Pros

  • Top-tier still photography, particularly for point-and-click usage.
  • Clean, 'iOS-like' UI that is more streamlined than other Android skins.
  • Strong AI integration and useful software features like Gemini.
  • Excellent software support longevity and frequent security updates.

Cons

  • Video recording quality is generally considered inferior to iPhone and Samsung flagships.
  • Weak GPU performance makes these devices poorly suited for intensive gaming.
  • Slow charging speeds and relatively small battery capacities.
  • Tendency to heat up during use.

And while I agree that photos have become a little overprocessed those last few years, the Pixel and the regular S24 you tried have far from the best hardware by today's standards.

Galaxy for video, Pixel for photo.

I will say Pixel were the most recommended, but they have small battery capacities and slow charging (and many saying they heat up).
