It’s one of my favorites. It’s so light for its size. I’ve considered picking up some of the newer versions with updated steels but this is such a dang trooper it’s hard to consider

I love the Miyoo mini plus and rg35xx as home consoles and the mini v4 as my pocket one currently

As long as you have the bios and roms this can play all the way back as far as arcade and as modern as playstation 1. Which I wouldn’t recommend higher on this as anyway it would lack some controls (it does have four shoulder buttons though).

AI summary — not a quote

Video game consoles are consistently recommended as the superior value proposition for gamers on a strict budget, particularly those looking to spend under $500 to $1,000. While discussed within a PC-building community, the consensus is that consoles offer better performance-per-dollar and a more seamless, optimized experience than a low-end or aging PC setup.

Pros

  • Superior price-to-performance ratio compared to budget PC builds
  • Plug-and-play simplicity with no need to manage drivers or graphical settings
  • Games are generally well-optimized to run reliably on the hardware
  • Ideal for casual gamers who prefer to avoid technical troubleshooting

Cons

  • Lacks the productivity capabilities of a PC (e.g., word processing, web browsing)
  • Missing the deep discounts and cheap game libraries found on platforms like Steam

But if you only have $500 to spend and you just want to play Skyrim, browse the web, and do word processing; I'd recommend buying a console (xbox-one, PS-5, etc) for gaming and using your PC exclusively for those productivity tasks until you save up enough to rebuild from scratch.

I know this isn't what you're asking for, but I've had to try and make things work for family on a small budget in the past, the best option is just to keep your current mini PC for whatever your family needs and buy a console for the same amount as your budget but with a far superiour performance.

It’s honestly hard to beat the value of a console. You could really get some great games that essentially will always run well or be optimized.

Console is better for you, especially if you're a casual gamer and don't care about tinkering with parts/settings to get the best performance.

I’d argue at that price point you’re better off with a console
