AI summary — not a quote

Astro Bot is widely celebrated as a premier 3D platformer and a "love letter" to PlayStation history, often cited as a Game of the Year contender. It is highly praised for its polished gameplay, inventive level design, and exceptional use of the PS5's DualSense controller features. While it is frequently compared to the quality of the Super Mario series, some players find it lacks the mechanical depth and open-ended exploration found in the genre's top-tier titles.

Pros

  • Exceptional use of DualSense haptic feedback and triggers for immersion
  • High level of polish and "childlike joy" in gameplay and presentation
  • Consistent post-launch support with free additional levels and content
  • Accessible and fun for all ages, making it a popular choice for families

Cons

  • Certain mechanics, such as the monkey or metal ball, can feel sloppy due to motion control issues
  • Movement and move sets are perceived as less deep or "athletic" compared to 3D Mario games
  • Soundtrack is described by some as safe and forgettable compared to other genre giants
  • Power-ups can feel repetitive, with many focusing on simple horizontal or vertical dashes

Astro Bot winning half of them is incredible, but let's also acknowledge Helldivers 2 for winning another four.

Astro Bot is a fantastic game but it's not my favorite platformer

Few seem tailor-madw for the system - Returnal and Astro Bot being notable exceptions.

This game brought back the childlike joy in me as I played this. You can feel the love pouring out of it!

Yeah Astro is just an incredible game. Mario platformers have been known as almost untouchable when it comes to their genre, but Astro is genuinely up there right along with it. That’s not even taking to consideration the incredible immersion Astro offers with its dualsense features on top of the amazing game.

Anyway, Mario Wonder is great and I've already promised her I'll happily play it again with her and/or the kids, so I think all is well.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the online features of **Super Mario Bros. Wonder**. ... Thus, I came out of that level realizing that Mario Wonder is a game that allows for and rewards player creativity, which is terrific, and also that it's a game that creates emergent gameplay out of passive multiplayer in a way that, if not truly new in the gaming space at least *feels* novel.

I do love the “wonder” mechanic introduced in “Super Mario Bros. Wonder”. Though it is the “Wonder Seed” that triggers the hallucinatory mindfeckery, it might as well be the mushrooms that have been such a mainstay of Mario’s world for so long. The “trippyness” induced by these seeds is a great fit for a Mario 2D platformer.

I really did enjoy this game. ... That said, despite the hype and promises of being the first 2D Mario platformer since the SNES days to take the series forward, I found that “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” mostly just plays like it could have been another entry in the “New Super Mario Bros.” franchise. ... I do love the “wonder” mechanic introduced in “Super Mario Bros. Wonder”.
