Wells Fargo
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Wells Fargo is viewed with significant skepticism on Reddit, primarily due to a long history of high-profile scandals, including the creation of unauthorized accounts and discriminatory lending practices. While some users praise their credit card rewards and spend-tracking tools, the prevailing sentiment is one of distrust, with many users explicitly stating they will never bank with the institution regardless of rates.
Pros
- Competitive credit card rewards and cash back multipliers
- Useful spending visualizations and categorization tools in the mobile app
- Regular 0% APR balance transfer offers for existing cardholders
- Simple and attractive 'coupons' or promotional offers on certain cards
Cons
- Deep-seated reputational issues stemming from multiple historical and recent scandals
- Lack of competitive interest rates on standard savings accounts and no HYSA options
- Reports of rude or dismissive customer service interactions
- Potential for credit limit reductions on remaining cards when closing a checking account
- Technical friction reported during initial account funding and setup
Caveats
- Customer service quality is highly polarized; some users find it superior to competitors like Chase or Citi, while others report a 'garbage experience.'
- The 2010s fake accounts scandal remains a primary reason for user avoidance, despite efforts to clean up the brand's image.
Best for
- Users seeking specific credit card reward structures or cash back multipliers
- Existing customers who can leverage targeted balance transfer promotions
- People who value detailed in-app spending analytics and pie charts
Avoid if
- Corporate ethics and a history of regulatory fines are a primary concern
- You are seeking a high-yield savings account (HYSA)
- You want a bank with a consistently high reputation for customer trust

Personally I won't bank with Wells Fargo even if the rate is the best. They have a long history of ripping off their customers and I won't give them my business.
I think you can do it in Wells Fargo's system too.
Wells Fargo does more illegal & fraudulent business than legitimate business. These are just their scandals in the last ten years: * the fake accounts scandal ... * 2018 improper mortgage and auto-lending ... * 2022 another lending scandal ... * violating [FDCPA in collections] ... * hiring discrimination and illegal pay practices
As of now- Citi! But Wells Fargo is lurking in the corner ready to take off.
while Wells Fargo has given me some of the best customer support of any card issuer.
Wells Fargo. 2nd most shittiest bank. Often rude customer service people. One of their rep said “I don’t have time for this call.”
That’s some Wells Fargo BS.
Wells Fargo has done a lot to clean up their image and whenever I deal with their customer service it has been a pleasure.
C Tier: Citibank, Wells Fargo, BMO
But the most known problem with Wells is that they opened multiple accounts for customers without customers knowledge just to increase the number of accounts oh and while they were inflating their numbers, they magically happen to charge a fee or two on some of those accounts.
