I did not enjoy Wake Up. It felt rushed, sloppy, and a neat idea for a short story or novella but not a full length book.
It seemed a bit pleased with itself as if it were making the most incredible social and political statement when it was pretty cringy stuff (fax news, a riff on the baby shark song etc..) the pop cultural references will date the book terribly i think. ... In execution it descends to a fairly bog standard search for your family and try to survive against the horde apocalyptic thriller. Nothing to get too exited about. A 2.5/5 for me. Mid.
The body horror and SA content is pretty rough.
I thought the first part and first half of the third part were good. The second half of the third part is okay, but there’s a narration change that bugged me. It felt unnecessary. The middle dragged and was repetitive.
