The Woman in Black

Then I went to The Woman In Black from Susan Hill and I really liked this as well. I loved the style of writing, the setting, the ghost and the characters. I only wished there was perhaps a more confrontational ending.

More so than her more famous The Woman In Black, as while there are imaginative flourishes in the writing there's a grim reality to it.

If you do ever feel like something a little more traditional, The Woman in Black narrated by Paapa Essiedu is fantastic

The Woman in Black would be perfect for you. Not a long read but a ghost story at an isolated farm house cut off from the rest of the world when the tide comes in
