Parent context: Sticks, Karl Wagner Reply: Heads up, this one is more of a novella than a short story. Very good read though! Love this novella. Terrifying, yes, but in a, "If this were actually real..." sort of way, not jump scares or gore.

Pretty sure that's what made me pick up a copy of Langan's "The Wide, Carnivorous Sky..." at the time.

I loved Mr Gaunt, The Wide Carnivorous Sky and I'm one of those people who think The Fisherman is a modern masterpiece

If you're looking for short stories collections from single authors instead and you fancy a bit (or a lot) of cosmic horror you really can't go wrong with the early stuff from ... Langan (The Wide Carnivorous Sky etc., Children of the Fang...)

John Langan's collections are great. Best is probably Mr. Gaunt or The Wide Carnivorous Sky

The whole collection was great, but this was by far my favorite one in it.
