Pros

• Parent context: Oh man sounds amazing who is it by Reply: Leslie J Anderson It focuses on a small town horse farms in an obviously poor town and community. But local lore says that sometimes a horse can give birth to a human
• the unmothers by leslie anderson (folkish, pregnancy, cosmic horror, horses, women banding together to get back at an evil man)
• I think it hits best as an examination of a “rust belt” town decimated by the opioid epidemic. The horror and even the crime fic angle are sort of secondary to the malaise of a decaying social structure.
• i personally loved the unmothers but i guess that’s an unpopular opinion.
• *The Unmothers* by Leslie Anderson. It’s not as grisly but it’s plenty grim.

Cons

• Ive read The Unmothers and while that isn't a perfect book it does have that dark small town foreboding with focus on the supernatural and local relationships.
• I just finished this one too- I thought it was ok, glad I finished it but not good enough that I’d recommend it to others.
• I bailed after about 60 pages, I wanted to like it but it just didn’t grab me.
• I liked but didn’t love it. It’s got a very gritty, old school LitFic feel. ... It is definitely worth reading (in my opinion) but not on my best of the year list.
• Cool concept but the novel didn't hook me, I don't think it's particularly well-written.
