I tried The Reddening by Nevill, and had to DNF because I found it too campy and just generally too long/slow.

I recently discovered Adam Nevill's work. The Reddening, Last Days and The Ritual (Also a movie on netflix) are all great.
I love Adam Nevill for folk horror. The Ritual, Last Days, Under a Watchful Eye, Cunning Folk definitely, The Reddening, etc.
It was a pretty stark departure from his (very divisive) style that I had enjoyed so much with Last Days and The Reddening
It was basically a 200-250 page novella that was stretched to 400 pages. There are long sections of describing the setting that could’ve been greatly trimmed down. It was also unbelievably predictable. Like every cliche you can think of on horror stories about cults was somehow fit into it.
