It's not even horror, it's a psych thriller, but The Last House on Needless Street. The whole thing, especially the ending, was sheer laziness.
I'd like to throw myself down in the HELL YEAH camp. I am a journey enjoyer > overarching plot auditor so I really enjoyed the unreliable narration, the psychological changes, the explorations of character, the different perspectives and realities.

Gimmicky, yes. I was like insulted almost. And it bugged me apparently because it still bothers me and I want everyone to know!
Parent context: I loved Ward's earlier Rawblood, so I was looking for to The Last House at Needless Street but I found it gimmicky and cheap. Reply: Yeah, I really wanted to appreciate it but after I finished i put the book in the goodwill box immediately.
This book is one of my favorite books that I read this year.
by the end I was very let down as that sounded a lot more interesting than what we got.
