*The Imago Sequence* or *Occultation* are both awesome collections, great places to start, and full of modern cosmic horror.

*The Imago Sequence*, then *Occultation*, then *The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All*, and wrap it all up with *The Croning*. You’ll cover the length and breadth of his Child of Old Leech mythos that way.

Even still it was engrossing and brain-tickling in the way that only Barron can do cosmic horror.

If you're looking for short stories collections from single authors instead and you fancy a bit (or a lot) of cosmic horror you really can't go wrong with the early stuff from Barron (The Imago Sequence, Occultation, The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All)

My recommendation is to just read his books in publication order. Either start with his first collection *The Imago Sequence* if you want to go from the very beginning or with his second collection *Occultation* if you want to jump in where his cosmic horror mythos truly begins to form, then just go from there.

If you like cosmic horror à la Lovecraft you can't really go wrong picking from one of Barron's early anthologies: The Imago Sequence, Occultation, The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All etc.

The audiobook versions of The Imago Sequence and The Beautiful Thing That Await Us All are available in versions being read by Joe Hempel who genuinely sounds like a tired PI.
