The Croning by Laird Barron is amazing- i listened to it as an audiobook and was not disappointed.

*The Imago Sequence*, then *Occultation*, then *The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All*, and wrap it all up with *The Croning*. You’ll cover the length and breadth of his Child of Old Leech mythos that way.

Parent context: Wild cosmic horror that's genuinely unsettling and paranoid. It's hard for a book to make me look over my shoulder, so to speak, but this one really did it well. Don't put off reading this book! And be prepared to read a few more by Barron after you finish. Reply: Same. I re-read The Croning recently and I had forgotten some of the more minor scenes that freaked me the fuck out in that 'looking over my shoulder' kinda way (like the scene toward the beginning when some 'kids' are messing with Don's car).

If you want to check out Laird Barron, I highly recommend starting with his short story collections before diving into *The Croning*. Check out his first collection, *The Imago Sequence and Other Stories*, or *Occultation and Other Stories* before *The Croning*.

And his first novel, The Croning, has one of the most heart-stopping endings ever.

I just finished The Croning and before that Not A Speck of Light and all I gotta say is I can't believe I slept on this author for so long.
