Yes this book was awesome. ... I think the author really showcased the horror done to Mara well, and Mara as a character really held the horror well. And the horror itselff felt refreshing and was something unique. Really liked the spin on generational trauma. I agree the pacing was superb.

Parent context: I usually really dislike memory loss as a premise. How is that handled in this book? Reply: I did like this one even with the memory loss premise. I think part of it is that I pieced together pretty early what the main character’s back story is, so I wasn’t left feeling as confused by that. Plus, there is a lot going on in this story beyond the main character and it is all super creepy and well written

I also loved it! Definitely a favorite read this year. The folklore is great, the imagery is brutal, and I found the execution really engaging. My only critique is that Mara’s friend the bartender (blanking in her name) felt a little underbaked and convenient.

I went into this one blind and loved it! Only issue is that a couple chapters are a little too explainy. But other than that the pacing was excellent with the number and variety of quality spooks and engaging characterization. Plus it’s very Irish which just made it that much better

The Burial Tide by Neil Sharpson is one of the best horror novels I've read in the last few years! ... Not only was the plot engaging and completely unpredictable, but the writing was proficient, leaving no room for breaks in immersion. It was atmospheric, bleak, and utterly disgusting at times. The body horror was some of the best I've read

I love anything built around water horror, like THE BURIAL TIDE by Neil Sharpson, so perhaps I'm bias!
