Pros
- Steelcase, Herman Miller and Knoll all make great chairs that can be had for <$300 secondhand.
- Second the Steelcase, they're quality and you can get them at all price ranges from "refurbish" sites and your local used office furniture place.
- Steelcase is generally considered pretty good, might be cheaper.
- I love my Steelcase. 100% worth it.
- Parent context: It’s definitely the life span. The cheap chairs start showing wear after a few years. A steelcase or Herman miller, besides stains, will look and feel like new 20 years from now. Reply: The lifespan of the chair doesn't h...
Cons
- Decided to splurge and buy a steelcase...can't remember the name. Was like $600 or $700. All the reviews I've read and here on reddit seem to love it. I fucking hated it more than the cheap $100 or $200 chairs. Zero padding whatsoever.
- I also tried the Herman Millard and Steelcases and was unimpressed
- Parent context: I hate these chairs. The mesh is lined by hard plastic and the hard plastic just digs into my thighs the entire time I sit in them. I had to ask my work place to switch out for a not so fancy looking nondescript chair tha...

Steel case leap v2 can be found used for like under $300 pretty regularly. An infinitely better chair.
Unless you're buying herman miller or steelcase and really need to use keyboard and mouse, I would pick sofa anyday.
Steelcase chairs will outlive all of us
