Song of Kali

A few other page turner horror novels with lots going on that I've enjoyed: Song of Kali by Dan Simmons

I really like Dan Simmons' Song of Kali, which definitely has that pervasive dread; but I know that a lot of people find the way it portrays India problematic.

My favorites are Drood, The Terror, Song of Kali, and Hyperion.

He definitely nailed the atmosphere in Song of Kali. That sense of confusion, fear and ultimately lack of resolution. One of the better endings also, without getting into that.

I read Song of Kali recently and agree with your take. Yes the book’s portrayal of Calcutta plays on Western fears of the third world but that’s kind of the point and why the cosmic horror in it is so effective.

I loved *The Terror* and *Song of Kali*. ... I just think it’s a great piece of pulp fiction. Dread oozes off the page from the very beginning.

4. Song of Kali

I agree, I loved The Terror but I thought Song of Kali was one of Simmon's finest works. The sense of dread was haunting and the finale when he goes to Delhi for the last time was perfection.

Song of Kali if you are looking for something shorter and tight.

Song of Kali is another good one.
