Pros
- Silver Start near Vernon again fly to Kelowna and transfer frequent and cheap. Lower elevation so not as snow sure but fantastic tree skiing in the backside.
- if your looking for lots of glades you may want to consider a central BC resort like Sun Peaks, Silver Star, Red Mountain or Big White as these resorts have more acreage in the sub alpine.
- Silver Star are excellent blades on a par with Gillettes.....I use them alot and I have a heavy beard....When I first saw them I thought the same till I used them.....Made by Lord in Egypt.
- I just went to Silver Star a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it as well.
- Silver Star in Vernon is a great hill, longer runs than Fernie, but still lots of beginner to intermediate stuff to have fun on.
Cons
- My local hills Big White and Silver Star are both under delayed openings.
- From those blades I predict the Treet will be the best and the Silver Star the worst.
- Whistler, Silver Star, Big White and some of the bigger players do have staff accom with lots of conditions

Parent context: Have you ever done Freddy’s at Sun Peaks? That’s the hardest run there apparently. It’s difficult, but I think silver star still had some harder runs. The hard runs at silver star are also in one zone area, so it’s way easier to lap Reply: I don't believe so. We had very slushy and thin coverage unfortunately so some stuff lower mountain was a bit sketchy lol.
If you want to have a mix of Green and Blue groomers with good double blacks for your partner, Silver Star is probably the better option in terms of diverse runs. The runs under the comet express are really fun for Blue groomers. The run Christmas Bowl under the Alpine Meadows chair is a really fun blue. Then you have the backside, where you have a bunch of single and double blacks. This is a lot of vertical with relatively difficult double blacks in trees. Also there isn’t an alpine bowl at silver star, which means every terrain zones has trees. The ski in and ski out at silver star is amazing too. The snow at silver star is also really good, even if there hasn’t been snow in a bit.
We stayed right on the hill at silver star it was nice, ski right to sliding door. Mid week feb place was empty.
