Pros

  • Direct air motors like the Kirby and Sanitaire push dirt to a bag. ... A few dollars for a sanitaire bag gasket or Kirby horn gasket and pretty easily replaced.
  • The Sanitaire (image 1). Very simple yet powerful. That one looks like a shakeout so you don't need to use bags in it
  • The Sanitaire yes definitely. It’s a Eureka that uses style F&G bags. Belts are cheap. Bags are cheap and will deep suck your carpet.
  • If the sanitaire runs okay, I would clean it up and use it. Best quality of the three. Shouldn't need much more than a bag and belt, maybe a shot of white lithium grease on the bearings? Can be easily taken apart and disinfected, parts/b...
  • IMO - there is nothing wrong with a Sanitaire especially in an office environment. At the price point you have, it should do fine.

Cons

  • Sanitaire canister vacuums seem to not be commercial duty any longer.
  • I’m also curious about commercial uprights - there’s pretty low priced upright Orecks, Sanitaire, Vacmaster that I don’t really see on this sub but I feel like if they’re good enough for hotels, good enough for me?
  • Parent context: I'd probably grab a Kirby or a Sanitaire if those were my priorities. Both are awesome on carpets, but basically one-trick ponies (especially the Sanitaire). Reply: Neither the Kirby or the sanitaire are very good, neithe...
  • I looked at sanitaire but the reviews here are not great

If the sanitaire runs okay, I would clean it up and use it. Best quality of the three. Shouldn't need much more than a bag and belt, maybe a shot of white lithium grease on the bearings? Can be easily taken apart and disinfected, parts/brush readily available and cheap, easy to use. Loud, but cleans carpets pretty well. Long cord!

Parent context: I'd probably grab a Kirby or a Sanitaire if those were my priorities. Both are awesome on carpets, but basically one-trick ponies (especially the Sanitaire). Reply: Neither the Kirby or the sanitaire are very good, neither has enough suction to deep clean carpets. Performance reviews on YouTube shows this in his tests.

Sanitaire and Hoover make commercial backpack vacuums with batteries. They are much less annoying to use.
