s town is a good series
For me the Serial/This American Life podcast titled “S-Town” was probably the most impactful. It’s been ~10 years since I listened to it and I still think about parts of it from time to time.
Your Own Backyard and S-town match that quality.

I found it an interesting portrait the first time I listened to it, but now it just feels cringe and naive.
The whole thing felt a bit gross to me, very voyeuristic and definitely a bit of poverty porn for the NPR listeners to look down on this town and this peculiar old gay man. Like a modern version of a victorian freak show.
