- Charming city, great food. Neat history. The mosaics are very cool and worth some time wandering around.
- Ravenna was for a time the center of the Byzantine era and there are really cool mosaics in several of the big churches. It’s a very walk-able city.

If you have the time from Bologna take a train to raven Ravenna for a day, buy the 5 sites ticket and admire the mosaics
Ravenna! The mosaics are gorgeous and different from what you’ll find in the other cities. It’s about an hour by car from Bologna. Probably 90 minutes by rail. I sure wish we’d spent more time there and less in Florence!
I also second those who are recommending the mosaics in Ravenna - they really are worth seeing! I was there last May and the town tourism office runs a very affordable guided walking tour of the mosaics.
Ravenna is fantastic (mosaics), with other little cities/villages nearby.
Rimini, Modena and Ravenna (not to mention Bologna) deserve a day or more.
