Pros

  • Only my 5th parkrun this morning, was aiming for top 100 for my local run or sub-28 if I got lucky. ... Finished 77th with a 25:41. No idea where it came from but really stoked.
  • parkrun is such a good community for exactly this - i did my first one last year and it was way more fun than running alone. ... the slow runners group at parkrun is genuinely the friendliest crowd too, nobody is judging pace, people are...
  • After years of very sporadic running I've finally managed to string several weeks of mostly consistent training together and was rewarded with a PR at Parkrun - 26:50.
  • Yesterday I ran my 550th parkrun at my home parkrun, and it was also the 350th at that parkrun. I managed to beat my own Personal Best for parkrun, at 26:41 for the 5K.
  • I've broken my PB for my local parkrun about 4 times in the last couple of months, and my overall parkrun PB a couple of weeks ago. I never thought I'd be breaking a PB again.

The fact that it costs nothing and gets people moving every weekend is probably why it's hit such crazy numbers.

The logistics of organizing that many free events every weekend without it falling apart is honestly incredible. Definitly a huge milestone for the community.

The cake and balloons will be out again at Bushy Park in south-west London on Saturday as the phenomenon that is parkrun marks yet another milestone, this one surely the most incredible of all along its 22-year journey - the millionth event.
