Pros

  • If you all are in the same NSO family plan, you can also lend virtual game cards to non-purchasers. IE purchaser with the VGC can lend it to another person using another Switch.
  • Animal crossing does keep a cloud backup, but it's not like the normal cloud saves. ... Once you are synced to the cloud, you are free to do either system transfer without worry.
  • $20 for a year would get you access to ton of NES, SNES and Gameboy titles.
  • It's really cheap. At $20 a year it's one of the cheapest subscriptions available among video game consoles for anything. The basic membership gives you cloud saves, access to membership bonuses like digital game vouchers (ending soon)...
  • Cloud saves with Nintendo switch online would allow you to have the data synced between the consoles automatically (sometimes it's slow), allowing all of you to play switch 1 games on both consoles.

Cons

  • Any other individual subscriptions just keep running, and are just wasted.
  • In general, each person who wants to play online has to have their own account, a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online program (there are family options available), and their own copy of the game, either physical or digital.
  • Anyone knows what are the rules on when does the Nintendo Switch Online apps (SNES, N64, GBA, etc emulators) check for your account privileges? It is very annoying this when travelling and having no internet access
  • You can sign in on any number of systems, but you can only have two at a time setup to load your virtual game cards. ... However your account can only be online on one system at a time. ... The fourth wouldnt be able to access your games...
  • You need an active NSO subscription to both purchase the vouchers AND redeem them. ... Once redeemed the game is yours, you no longer need a NSO sub for anything related to it

The basic individual subscription has gone on sale for a whopping $2 off before. But that's the only time I can remember it was ever discounted by a licensed retailer.

You can swap regions as often as you would like so long as you dont have; * Auto renewal for NSO is enabled - sounds like this isnt a problem yet but might be after redeeming the code. You can cancel it from within the eshop/NSO app or account website if the region selector is suddenly greyed out.
