Pros

  • if you want look wise and screen i think surface laptop is a nice option.
  • The Surface Laptop
  • That's one of about 10 reasons I bought a surface laptop to replace it within a year and relagated the XPS to desktop duty.
  • I need a Mac for my work but if I didn't and wanted those features I'd get a surface laptop.
  • I'm not a huge fan of Mac OS so if I had a choice I would go with the Surface Laptop.

Cons

  • Microsoft just released a Surface Laptop with 8GB RAM and it costs $950
  • I've found that the samsungs and surface laptops come close in the look&feel department but they're way overpriced and lacking in performance.
  • Parent context: I was on a Microsoft Teams call (using the app, not a browser) when the host streamed a brief video, which made the whole laptop hang for several seconds. At the time, I had about 10 Chrome tabs open across two desktops,...
  • Microsoft’s $950 Surface Laptop with 8GB RAM freezes during basic multitasking
  • At least the Surface Laptop isn't all glue. You can open and change battery, memory, so not QUITE so useless. I despise them now.

Parent context: I was on a Microsoft Teams call (using the app, not a browser) when the host streamed a brief video, which made the whole laptop hang for several seconds. At the time, I had about 10 Chrome tabs open across two desktops, alongside Slack and Signal Reply: It’s Microsoft saying 8GB is fine for Windows. It’s the same saying a car with 10L deposit is fine for today and then people finding out the obvious that you won’t get far with it. Thing is non tech savvy people don’t know that and will buy this trash.

Got a cheapish Surface Laptop. It's no better than a toy. An overpriced toy. Heats up quickly, performs poorly.

The Surface Laptop tested was the 16BG/1TB version that costs $1999.99. The 16BG/1TB M5 air costs $1299 and is faster. Strange that Macs are now the much better value.
