Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Mazda CX-9 is widely praised by owners for its superior driving dynamics, premium interior materials, and long-term reliability. It is frequently positioned as a more 'sporty' and 'dashing' alternative to competitors like the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot, though it is noted for having a smaller interior and less cargo space than some of its rivals.

Pros

  • Excellent driving dynamics with smooth 'buttery' gear shifts and responsive throttle.
  • High-quality interior featuring premium dials, ventilated Nappa leather, and superior sound insulation.
  • Strong reputation for reliability, with some users reporting over 200,000 miles or 11 years of trouble-free ownership.
  • Well-equipped upper trims (GT and Signature) include features like Bose sound systems and wireless smartphone integration.

Cons

  • Limited trunk and cargo space compared to other SUVs in its class.
  • The interior can feel smaller or more 'cramped' than competitors like the Honda Pilot.
  • Used market pricing for certain model years (e.g., 2021) can be perceived as high.

Caveats

  • Users strongly recommend opting for GT trims or higher, advising against the base GL trims.
  • Opinions on third-row space are mixed; while some find it class-leading, others find it tight for large families.
  • The infotainment control knob has a learning curve, though some users find it indispensable once mastered.

Best for

  • Drivers who prioritize a premium feel and engaging driving experience in a family SUV.
  • Those looking for Japanese build quality and long-term mechanical reliability.

Avoid if

  • Maximum cargo capacity and a cavernous interior are your primary requirements.
  • You are looking for the most budget-friendly entry-level trim without premium features.

CX9 and new Pathfinder seems to be a good alternative as well.

As someone who dailies a mazda CX-9 I think once you get used to the nob it becomes hard to live without it and I think the interior, engine and transmission is leagues above Honda.

The top trim I have as amazing features and I can't get over it, another friend has a 150K AED Infinity sports sedan and even that does not have cooled seats and other stuff and features that mine 21 model has.
