Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Kia Sorento is generally regarded as a high-value SUV that offers a premium-feeling interior and a 'bang for the buck' experience, particularly in its V6 and higher-spec trims. While many users praise its luxury features and the utility of its optional 7-seater layout, opinions on long-term reliability are polarized, ranging from 'runs like a champ' to categorical dismissals of the brand's quality.

Pros

  • High value for the price ('bang for the buck')
  • Luxurious interior, especially in the V6 and full-spec models
  • Optional 7-seater configuration provides versatility
  • Sufficient power for highway speeds and relatively frugal fuel consumption

Cons

  • General brand skepticism regarding long-term reliability from some users
  • Base models may have significantly lower safety specs (e.g., only 2 airbags in certain regions)
  • Can be priced slightly above entry-level budgets

Caveats

  • Used buyers should carefully check Carfax reports; one user noted a vehicle with 'minor damage' and persistent interior odors
  • Safety features and airbag counts vary significantly between base and full-spec trims
  • The Sorento shares its platform with the Hyundai Santa Fe

Best for

  • Buyers seeking a luxury-adjacent interior without the premium brand price
  • Families who need an occasional 7-seater
  • Drivers who prefer a V6 engine option in a mid-size SUV

Avoid if

  • You are skeptical of Kia/Hyundai's long-term mechanical reliability
  • You are considering a base model and require comprehensive standard safety features

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age of 414 days), so confidence is lower as newer model year updates may not be fully captured.

Check out the Kia Sorento, slightly used full option should cost around 160 or so.

Your other options could be the Kia Sorento and Nissan X-Terra Platinum (both available at zero profit rate in some regions)

The Kia surprisingly never gave any grief but would like some change, or else will go for another Sorento again next year.

So this Kia Sorento is currently at a local dealer, I had requested a quote on their site, I had a salesman text me same day and had asked if I had any questions regarding said vehicle, text him back and had asked what the "minor damage" on the carfax was, he said he wasn't quite sure what it was, and had messaged me and told me the car is a 1 owner, bought brand new off their lot in 2020, but their having problems selling it cause it reeks of cigarettes

Just bought a new KIA sorento full spec awd V6 for around AED180k. Great car so far, very luxurious inside - lot of bang for the buck.

Parent context: I'm looking at 2022+ vehicles with under 40k miles (under $30k). In that range I see quite a few options, but I think we've narrowed it down to a Kia Sorento, Chevy Traverse, or Mazda CX-9. Reply: cousin has an old sorento - runs like a champ

Mazda products are generally good, but Kia Sorrento and Chevy Traverse are junk, as are all Kia/Hyundai products and all newer Chevy products except their full-size trucks.

Having said that, I’m going to see the CRV and Sorento this week. The optional 7 seater is tempting.
