I really loved this book, I like when an author goes all in on a crazy premise and really thinks it through. I have some minor quibbles about characterization but I did really identify with Ivan and felt a huge amount of sympathy for Kay.
It's my least favorite of Robert Brockway's novels but still really solid. And it's definitely unlike anything else I've ever read. I found the ending very satisfying in that it didn't just sweep everything under the rug and actually followed through on what would be the logical outcome from everything that happened.

Parent context: is it genuinely scary at all or it it more on the comedy side? Reply: Robert Brockway does an excellent job of making me feel anxious/sort of scared and then make me laugh. Then I think "wait, this is serious I shouldn't be laughing". His books are a ride.
It was easily my favorite read of 2026 so far!
I've been proselytizing about that book since I read it so I'll just say I'm glad to hear somebody else had seen the light. It's a banger.
