Haval H9
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Haval H9 is positioned as a high-value, spacious 7-seater SUV that offers legitimate off-road capability at a significantly lower price point than its primary competitors. While users are generally satisfied with its build quality and interior space, there is a strong consensus that the vehicle is 'thirsty' regarding fuel and feels underpowered due to its 2.0L turbo engine struggling with the car's heavy curb weight.
Pros
- Excellent value for money compared to segment peers like the Ford Everest or Toyota Prado.
- Spacious 7-seater interior with more cargo and passenger room than the Haval H7.
- Capable off-roader that can handle most terrains, with some users performing successful modifications for extreme use.
- Strong build quality and 'stunning' modern design.
- Often includes long-term service contracts (up to 6 years) in specific markets like the UAE.
Cons
- High fuel consumption is a frequently cited drawback.
- Sluggish acceleration and a 'weak' feel when overtaking, attributed to the 2.0L engine size.
- The auto-hold function is described as jerky and less refined than premium implementations.
- Some users find the interior materials, specifically the 'fake leather' seats, to feel sticky or low-quality.
- Minor assembly issues reported, such as rear doors requiring hinge adjustments to close properly.
Caveats
- The 2.0L turbo engine is widely considered the 'weak link' for a vehicle of this mass.
- While the brand has a 10-year history, some buyers still express general reliability concerns common to newer market entrants.
- The driving experience is described as 'truck-like,' which may not appeal to those used to car-based crossovers.
Best for
- Large families on a budget who need three rows of seats.
- Buyers looking for a capable off-road vehicle without the premium price of established Japanese or American brands.
- Commuters who value interior tech and space over fuel efficiency.
Avoid if
- Fuel economy is a top priority for your daily drive.
- You prefer a vehicle with responsive, punchy acceleration for highway driving.
- You are sensitive to unrefined driver-assistance features like jerky auto-hold.

The car is super in all aspects but fuel consumption. I had a problem with the rear door not closing properly. It's cured by adjusting hinges or installation of suction mechanism. The other thing I don't like is the auto hold function. To my taste it's too jerky. I am comparing it to the Mercedes implementation. Overall considering the value for money I am very satisfied with the car.
i believe you could consider a Haval H9 or Jetour T2.
Haval H9 — looks amazing, proper 4WD, boxy design I loved. But the 2.0L felt slow. Not the dealer's fault, just not the right engine coming from a V8.
Haval -H9 built more on modern architecture and interiors are good.
If you don't offroad much, Haval H9. It's bigger and has slightly better lux features ... I feel like the haval h9 is roomier, slightly better lux features
We have a haval h9 & Tank 300 and have only been off-road twice along with other 1st timers. The owner community is very active and organize activities every weekend.
If no off-road driving, there are another set of cars, like the HAVAL H9, Zeekr, Li Auto.
I was suprised that I liked V7 and H9 when I visited showroom.
I would say Haval H9, V7 and tank 300
