Pros

  • The repairman suggested GE as a decent brand, any other recommendations?
  • He also said GE or higher end Frigidaire is good.
  • Buy a basic top loader from Maytag or GE (parts are readily available and repairs reasonable) for $800-$1200
  • My GE has been super reliable and was priced well.
  • I bought a very basic GE fridge recently... I was able to go online and find the part, order it and have it in my hands straight from GE in less than a week. For under $30. That is something to think about, parts availability.

Cons

  • Yeah, GE sold their appliance division to a Chinese company 15 or so years ago. They now have a designed life expectancy of 18 months which is also the warranty period. The house we live in had all new GE appliances put in at the same ti...
  • I bought a GE a couple years ago, it is a cheap POS made in Mexico out of old beer cans. The oven igniter already burned out last winter (propane).
  • GE is Haier now and... maybe OK? I've owned tons of GE appliances (used to work there), and only their pricier lines are worth it.
  • My kitchen is filled with GE appliances and I can confirm they're garbage products. To add insult to injury, when GE came to swap a dead microwave under warranty, their installers drilled into plumbing and ended up causing about $30k wor...
  • No one mentioned GE, just here to say don’t buy any GE products ever. We have GE profile washer, dryer, dish washer and fridge. I have had problems with ALL of them in 3 years or less ( all were brand new ).

Yeah, GE sold their appliance division to a Chinese company 15 or so years ago. They now have a designed life expectancy of 18 months which is also the warranty period. The house we live in had all new GE appliances put in at the same time. The landlord had to replace them all at once too.
