Pros

  • I have DD/UE on my phone but checking my order history - on DD I placed 2 orders this year, one if Feb and in March, and it was a really good pizza deal (both orders) which was actually cheap.

Cons

  • last year we finally understood how insidious a rip-off scheme these delivery apps are. The restaurants don't make any serious money from them either; several local independent places we visit have told us that they either make less than...
  • But even as someone who isn’t super consciously frugal all the time DoorDash is fucking insane to me. I’ve used it a couple times here or there in a pinch but by the time I did use it the convenience and delivery fees makes it cost twice...
  • That said, for people who are struggling with DoorDash-itis or spending on takeout, pre-chopped veggies and other convenience grocery products can be a huge savings.
  • Trust me I’ve had an order from DoorDash get stolen and they decided to just not refund me and say it was delivered even after arguing. Never used them again and switched to uber eats.
  • Doordash is not reasonable because my car is a high mileage and in need of mechanical repairs soon.

But even as someone who isn’t super consciously frugal all the time DoorDash is fucking insane to me. I’ve used it a couple times here or there in a pinch but by the time I did use it the convenience and delivery fees makes it cost twice as much as if I’d just get my ass in my car and drive the 5-10 minutes somewhere and go through the fucking drive thru.

Obviously, DaaS is expensive... but sometimes we do get folks here saying, "OMG, just realized cooking at home costs a small fraction of Doordash."

Parent context: It's not a Walmart driver, it's door dash. Which is tip territory. If it were a Walmart driver they wouldn't allow tips, as Walmart employees aren't allowed to take tips. And you do get free shipping without tipping, which is different from free grocery delivery that you tip on. Reply: I didn't pick Door Dash, I picked "Walmart Delivery". Walmart chose to employ Door Dash drivers. They should be responsible for their pay, and tip, not me.
