Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Carvana is a highly polarizing service frequently used as a benchmark for trade-in values and a no-haggle alternative to traditional dealerships. While users praise the convenience of buying online and the often-aggressive offers for trade-ins, there is significant criticism regarding high purchase prices, inconsistent vehicle quality, and poor customer support when post-sale issues arise.

Pros

  • Aggressive trade-in offers that often exceed traditional dealership quotes
  • Convenient, no-haggle buying process that avoids dealership sales tactics
  • Transparent itemized pricing available upfront
  • Useful tool for establishing a baseline value when selling a vehicle
  • 7-day return policy and limited warranties provide a safety net for some buyers

Cons

  • Purchase prices are frequently described as significantly higher than market average
  • Inconsistent vehicle reconditioning; reports of undisclosed damage and immediate repair needs
  • Customer service can be difficult to reach, often relying on restrictive chatbots
  • Administrative errors regarding trade-in payoffs and registration have been reported
  • Financing through the platform may result in higher-than-average interest rates

Caveats

  • Vehicle quality is described as a 'flip of a coin,' with some cars arriving in poor mechanical or cosmetic shape
  • Users report that the company may attempt to avoid honoring the 7-day return or warranty terms
  • Post-sale financial demands can occur if the company makes errors in processing trade-in paperwork

Best for

  • Selling or trading in a vehicle to get a competitive price with minimal hassle
  • Buyers willing to pay a premium to avoid interacting with dealership personnel
  • Establishing a quick baseline offer for a used car

Avoid if

  • You are looking for the lowest possible purchase price on a used vehicle
  • You want to physically inspect and test drive a car before committing to the purchase
  • You are not prepared to manage potential administrative or mechanical issues immediately after delivery

Why didn't you just sell it to Carvana or Carmax and chose some 2nd rate, iffy at best company

Yeah my understanding was that Carvana is like DoorDash where they jack up the normal price and in exchange you don’t have to interact with another human.

This is how Carvana works. Not only do they wreck you on the interest rate they charge 15k for a car worth 9.

Check CarMax & Carvana online. Make sure they vehicles were inspected & get the extended warantee insurance coverage.

Please don’t shop at Carvana, all of their cars are ridiculously overpriced because they mark up all their vehicles because they off deliver services and their so called “multi point inspection” which they don’t actually do.

You can put the information into Carvana to get a rough idea of what your trade in will be
