Pros

  • You'd get a *higher percentage* back on the Moog in resale. Given it cost almost three times more, I wouldn't count on losing *less money* than if you bought the Behringer and decided to sell it.
  • Something that is immediately playable, but still capable of some gnarly sounds. The Behringer or maybe Cre8audio route might be a good way to do it while keeping the price down.
  • Then any cheapo digital crossover+EQ combo (behringer does great), then a few cheap pro amps powering two top notch PA speakers.
  • I would suggest you just get a small, active PA speaker by a budget brand like Behringer and run the mono output of the Roland into it.
  • There are lots of options for these but Behringer and Focusrite both have good entry level audio interface worth checking out.

Cons

  • Don't bother with Behringer since they are many times cheaper than your budget.
  • The thing is, they were reverse engineering and straight ripping off the competitors' designs then building the knockoffs in China. Behringer has made some unreliable products and refused to stand by them.
  • I doubt there is much 'hate' for the DM12, but there's plenty of hate for Behringer, for reasons. I love mine and I think it's a great beginner synth, with plenty of hands-on control, a simple menu system and excellent effects.
  • Avoid Behringer (their digital mixers are OK I'm told, but their analogue mixers have always been pretty crap).
  • Behringer's driver support is abysmal though.

Yeah, I don't trust Behringer to last in the long term. They are built to be cheap, and that comes with cutting corners.

I'd stay away from the Behringers bc at that price range I keep reading on how bad they're built like daily, apart that some are ripoffs of available originals so no need to go for copies.
