Basically, when Interbrew (nowadays part of AB InBev) bought them in 2001, they immediately started cost-cutting. Beck‘s used to get brewing barley grown, malted and shipped over from Norwich to Bremen for them. Not cheap, but it got them the right quality. That was one of the first things they stopped. They also cheapened out on the hops. 1990‘s Beck‘s used to have a very pronounced noble hop character. That is gone now, and it‘s not nearly as bitter and hop-aromatic as it used to be.

This was nearly a decade ago, but I was once at a large party in Munich, Germany where the organizers had printed out and put up signs that read, in german obviously: “No Beck’s, this is a good party” So, no, I wouldn’t say it’s very good.
