ASUS Zenbook
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The ASUS Zenbook is widely regarded as a premium, lightweight Windows laptop that serves as a strong competitor to the MacBook Air. Users frequently praise its high-quality OLED displays, professional aesthetic, and portability. While generally considered robust and reliable for long-term use, opinions are occasionally mixed regarding its thermal management under heavy loads and the lack of dedicated graphics in most configurations.
Pros
- Excellent OLED screen quality, specifically the 2.8K 120Hz panels
- Highly portable and lightweight, with several models weighing under 3 lbs
- Strong battery life, with users reporting 10 to 12 hours for general tasks
- Premium build quality and professional, minimalist design
- Good value for hardware specs like Ryzen 7 or Intel Ultra chips in a thin chassis
Cons
- Most models lack a dedicated GPU (dGPU), limiting performance for heavy gaming
- Some configurations feature non-upgradeable (soldered) RAM
- Can run warm on the keyboard area during intensive workloads due to the thin chassis
- Occasional reports of hardware failures, such as screen adhesive issues or microphone malfunctions
Caveats
- While build quality is generally praised, individual reports mention the screen popping off or battery degradation after a few months
- Performance is often described as 'good for Windows' but sometimes lacking when compared directly to MacBook Air benchmarks
Best for
- Students and professionals needing a lightweight, portable device for lectures or travel
- Users who prioritize high-end display quality for media consumption or light creative work
- General productivity users looking for a premium Windows alternative to Apple hardware
Avoid if
- You require a primary gaming device that needs a dedicated graphics card
- You need a laptop with user-upgradeable memory
- You are sensitive to keyboard heat during heavy multitasking
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 314 days; users should verify if these observations apply to the very latest hardware refreshes.

There‘s other models such as the asus zenbook, but that one‘s 14“.
the ASUS zenbook is a terrible computer! ... It is much lighter than my yoga but (assumingly because of that) gets incredibly hot during use, and is literally too hot to touch when it is plugged in while in use. ... The touch screen fails to work from time to time, and I have only had this computer for 4 months. And the battery life is terrible, it only lasts about four hours
I have zenbook with ryzen and it has been great on 'Linux
I would definitely have a look at the new ThinkPad T14s (Gen 7) or the cheaper Asus Zenbook, both with Snapdragon x2. Battery life and performance are great.
Parent context: And honestly, eBay I've had problems with. I ordered a replacement keyboard for my Asus Zenbook in the … Reply: Actually, this is a place I can say "Fuck Asus" because they didn't have anything official under €150 which also came with the topplate. They couldn't just sell the keycaps. That's why I had to upgrade to my current laptop as I'm not going to invest another €100 in to hoping I get a good eBay seller.
For 10+ and then some battery life you're going to want to be on Panther Lake, which means framework 13 pro, Asus ZenBook, or Thinkpad x1 carbon are probably your best bet.
Personally I'd prefer the ASUS. HP has gone down in quality through the years.
I have a Asus Zenbook at the moment and enjoy this thin laptop that can charge off an airplane 75w port while also still managing to play Cyberpunk on the eGPU.
The ASUS Zenbook/Expertbook series are very nice, especially the more high-end variants. I like my Zenbook's matte screen more than my MacBooks' glossy screens, their keyboards are much better than MacBooks
Spec wise aim for a intel ultra 5, Ryzen 5 or snapdragon CPU, 16gb ram. Lenovo yoga, Asus zenbook or vivobook S, Microsoft surface, MacBook air (if your software supports Mac).
