AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The ASICS Metarise 2 is a specialized volleyball shoe highly regarded for its exceptional impact protection and unique design tailored for vertical jumping. Users frequently describe the cushioning as 'plush' and effective at reducing landing pain, particularly for heavier players or outside hitters. However, the shoe is polarizing due to its significant weight and bulk, which some players feel hinders defensive agility and quickness.

Pros

  • Superior impact absorption and cushioning for landings
  • Specialized shape that assists the penultimate step for jumping
  • High durability and longevity compared to lighter models
  • Excellent lockdown and secure fit
  • Effective carbon plate/shank for energy return

Cons

  • Heavy and bulky (reported at 450g+ for size 10.5)
  • High price point and limited availability
  • Traction can be inconsistent, especially on dusty courts
  • High stack height can feel unstable or increase ankle roll risk
  • Clunky feel that may hinder lateral defensive movements

Caveats

  • The specialized shank and rocker shape can feel 'weird' or unnatural during the initial break-in period.
  • While designed for volleyball jumping, users explicitly advise against using these for other court sports like badminton.
  • The high stack height may mitigate the effectiveness of the built-in outrigger for some players.

Best for

  • Outside hitters and middle blockers
  • Heavier or taller players needing maximum cushioning
  • Players prioritizing vertical jump height over lateral speed

Avoid if

  • You prefer a lightweight, minimalist, or 'quick' court shoe
  • You play on poorly maintained or dusty courts frequently
  • You are on a strict budget

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~584 days), so confidence is medium as newer performance models may have been released since the peak of these discussions.

this cw looked like the tennis ball, they could have used a deeper green and add some mat finish to them to give the shoes depth also should have colored the midsole as well... i like the shoes but who ever is the head of colorway production team need to be looked again cause they might be super boomers

They're not great with traction and I felt like they hindered my defence. I was usually late after receiving and then trying to attack. They do feel great when just going straight to a jump.

I have the Metarise 2. It has a decent outrigger but the stack height mitigates that a bit. I have rolled my ankle once in them fwiw.

metarise 2 has the sidewalls and SE3 is low to the ground. for differences, SE3 is significantly lighter and lower to the ground, metarise 2 has thicker midsoles and denser and is also more durable in terms of longevity. I would say metarise 2 last 2-3 times as long as SE3 for the same amount of usage

If you have the money, I would go for the Metarise 2. Those shoes can do things no other shoe can. It is made for outside hitters. And it is made for jumping higher. If you want a carbon plate so bad. Choose the Metarise 2. Because that shoe is shaped specifically for the penultimate step. You can “roll trough” the shoe with ease.

I recently got the Metarise 2 and can confidently say it's one of the best cushion and impact absorbing shoe you can get. I'm 5'10 210lbs and cushion has always been the most important thing for me. Super comfy landings, the shank feels weird at first but I don't even notice it anymore, Nice lock down.

My only negatives would be that they are bulky, so they don't feel "quick" and that they could have more grip. I've slipped a little on dusty courts.
