Pros

  • Arrival.
  • Very well said ❤️ try watch some old movies (if you have the time) and see how they become different in some way, like Arrival for example
  • It's my favorite movie of all-time.
  • I've never cried harder in a movie - I had a 4-month-old at home and Arrival destroyed me. Still does whenever I rewatch it.
  • It’s a masterpiece

Cons

  • See also: the ending of "Arrival." I thought it was a well-executed twist, but I have criticisms of the character, in-universe.
  • The only movie that came close was Arrival, but even then it was only the short scenes with in the ship that really hit the neon lights and futuristic scratch
  • CCP influence on the film became obvious in the end.
  • I'm a huge fan of first contact films, but Arrival was way to sentimental and cheesy for my taste.

Parent context: I think we can answer according to what we understood from the question, each one has his capacity to decide which movie is good enough to set recommendation as "quality content" to watch. no personal intentions! Reply: The OP said they find most movies “dumb and pointless” I’m just wondering what’s an example of a movie they’ve seen recommended on here that they liked. For instance I would consider Arrival to be a “smart” movie but not so much “raw”.
